I never have a problem eating out, but often find it a bit of a mission if it involves long treks on public transport. Recently Alex and I started meeting up with a friend of ours in the area and have now begun what appears to be a regular get together, to test out as many local South London eateries as we can. (Be prepared for some ‘I’m a lardy arse’ posts!)
Tonight was the turn of The Great Exhibition – East Dulwich. Now, I’ve never actually been out in this area, but from what I saw of the high street, there is no doubt I’ll be heading back at some point for a bit of retail therapy. If I could afford a house there, I’d be looking out for one of those too!
The Great Exhibition came on Will’s recommendation and it certainly didn’t fail to impress! This attractive building on Crystal Palace Road gives you the distinct impression that you are going to get some decent grub before you even enter. The interior was calming, with quirky decor and candles lit on every table, creating an exceptionally warm atmosphere on a crisp October night.
The menu includes everything from sandwiches, house burgers, a fabulous selection of mains, mouthwatering specials and to top it off, some pretty tempting desserts. Everything we ate was a delight and if it were not a week night, I could have settled down until closing. However, one advantage of going on a Wednesday is that if you roll the large dice behind the bar to show a six, you get your meal for free… Turned out Will’s luck was in!
Here is a little taster of what you can expect…
Take note of the breakfast menu at the bottom – Any excuse to go back!
