Pleeeease God, Let Me Keep My Brows!

So, it turns out I’m blogging again. Alex whipped up this new blog design for me over the weekend, and I really couldn’t say no, after all the trouble he took to bring it a little more up to date. We toyed with the idea of starting up a totally new blog with cancer in the title, but I decided that as SeeByZoe is a blog about my life, then why should I change it just because cancer has just decided to bust in on that action. I may as well  just keep on nattering on about it all over here because I’ll only have to swap back over when I get through all of this!

We popped down to Devon last Wednesday and returned on Sunday. The weather was pretty shoddy for most of the time, and on the one sunny day that there was, it was so over-crowded that we decided to do adrive by and head back to chill at the apartment. I’d like to say we were scoffing cheese and drinking fine wines, but eating clean, ready for the chemo, scuppered those plans. Boo. Hiss.

I have now been a Vegan for two weeks… Who’d have thought it? After a few attempts in the past, it took rotten ole cancer to push me into it. I’m actually really enjoying it – particularly because Alex has been doing all of the cooking! He has been amazing. I’ll do my part in the kitchen soon, but I’m trying to get up-to-date with all of my work before any sickness kicks in. The doctors say being freelance is a bonus, but little do they know how much I stress about getting everything done. I do see their point though as working from home means I can just take a few little naps throughout the day, and then just sit right back in front of my laptop when I’m feeling up to it. I’m much luckier than so many people, and I think it’s that thought that has been getting me through all of this. Well, that, music, Alex and the kids pets.

I’m more than prepared for the chemo to start next Thursday. There are a few things before that which I’m not looking forward to at all, but if they get me over the finish line, then I’ll take what’s going to be thrown at me. Suck it up and get on with it Zoe. You can do this!

I have to say that most of my preparation has involved shopping! I’ve stocked up on natural skin care products, ready for the effects the treatment may have on my skin. I have also purchased a wig (more on that soon), as well as an Anastasia brow palette (with stencils, cos I ain’t no artist!), just in case I have to draw those suckers back on. I was hoping my get ready routine would be reduced by half because of the expected hair loss, but then I figured if I lose my brows and lashes on top of my hair, then it could take me even longer… We shall see.

Pleeeease God, let me keep my brows and lashes… I haven’t exactly been blessed with amazing ones as it is – it’s not asking too much to spare me them, is it?! I’ll let you take the hair, at a push, but not the lashes and brows!

Anyway, I’ve rambled. My next few posts will be the story of the wig and Wilson, the PICC line that never quite happened!

I hope you all had a lovely Easter and ate lots of lovely chocolate for me. I’ve just been sniffing the stuff like a glue addict – Wasn’t really into the vegan chocolate that I tested out, but on the plus side, it’ll all help my figure when the chemicals start getting pumped in ;)

Until next time.

Summer of Discontent

I’m not going to lie, it was a summer of discontent for me and I’d much rather forget it… Hence my blogging silence. I haven’t had many of those in my life, so I  guess I should count myself as pretty lucky, move on and learn from it. Things are back on track, changes have been made and life goes on. Finding the time or desire to blog was the last thing on my mind over the past few months, but I’ve started to miss it a little, so I’m back to give it one last shot… Did you miss me?

Over the summer, Fat Cat got thin…. and then unfortunately got fat again! Huh? I pretty much did the same. Standard. Besty the Chihuahua spent many an hour basking in the sunshine on our balcony, and Alex moved his music studio into my ‘dressing room’ – A sad, sad time, which I’m told will only improve our lives. I’m still trying to get my head around that one… I mean, how can a lack of dressing space improve anyone’s life?! Eh? Answers on a postcard please.

I’ve made a massive monthly dent in my earnings and have signed up to get a Brompton cycle. You know… One of those funny fold up bikes that seem to cost the earth! Yup, I’ve joined the Brompton gang and have been searching frantically for a helmet that doesn’t make me look like a right numpty. Hmm, doesn’t appear to be one as yet, so I’ll be off to test lots of different ones out on my oddly shaped head one day very soon… Just because I’ve joined the ‘gang’ doesn’t mean I can’t do it with some sort of style. No siree.

Um, aside from all of that, I start a Photoshop course next week and somehow I seem to have found myself volunteering to help out with our local high street campaign to #rebuildthegreyhound. What else? Hmm, my teeth are still hurting and I may have to have yet another implant… BUT my dentist and I aren’t really talking about that until implant number two has been completed in a few weeks. If I’m totally honest, I’d rather my dentist and never spoke again, but what more can one do when their teeth are failing them!?

So, there’s my round-up of my life’s goings on. I hope you all had a wonderful summer and if you didn’t then just do what I’m doing and move on, try to forget it and make good.

Until next time x

No One Ever Gave Me The Spring Clean Rule Book

Well, we’ve done our massive spring clean, ready for our yearly exchange with our house-swapping friends from Paris. It took a while as we’ve been a bit slack with the dusting, but there’s nothing better than that spangly clean feeling! When I say spring clean, what I actually mean is that we’ve hidden everything we don’t need in the attic. Don’t judge me… No one ever gave me the spring clean rule book, okay!

We’ve taken over the in laws for a few days and are then heading to Devon for a long weekend from Friday. It’s seems like ages since we were last there, but we just haven’t had a long weekend free for a while. We’re using the Paris pad over the summer and I guess, like all Parisians, our French friends will be heading to the south of France. Such a hard life!

It’s been a while since I introduced Betsy the Chihuahua to the blog, but she loves traipsing around with us and she especially loves a trip to the sea. She’ll be two in a few weeks, so we might treat her to a few of Rick Stein’s finest fish and chips if she’s lucky (she’s always lucky). Fat Cat gets to spend some more quality time with Alex’s parents, which he loves – Somehow he always comes back a reformed slimmer version of his old self. Everyone’s a winner!

We are actually going to get to spend some a bit of time with our home-swapping buddies tonight. We usually only have time to do a quick key changeover, but this time round we’re going to get together and chat about a potential longer term exchange. Hopefully it will all pan-out, but if it doesn’t we’re more than happy with our once/twice yearly trip. I really do need to buff up on my French if we go for more than a week!

I’ve got lots of blog posts planned as soon as I get back. Lucky you!  I’ve been testing a few skincare products that I’m pretty happy with and we’ve got a last supper dinner booked in somewhere lovely in London, which I hope makes for much picture drooling! I’m treating myself before implant number two happens in a few weeks…. boooo.

Until next time x

Happy (nearly) Birthday Betsy!

Just Plodding Along

I know, I know… It’s been quite a while since I last blogged. If I’m honest it’s because I really haven’t had enough banter to do so. Not much has been going on here and we all know that doesn’t really result in great blogging conversation. As usual, I’ve spent a lot of time visiting my dentist – another tooth removal. Boo. hoo. Unfortunately, there is now a great whopping space in my mouth awaiting another expensive implant. This time round things were a lot more traumatic than the last, which resulted in much sobbing in the dentist’s chair… who knew it could get any worse!? Anyway, I’m over that now (not really) and I’ve stopped feeling sorry for myself (all lies).

The good news is that we’ve got a trip to New York to look forward to in about three weeks. This was booked before I knew about the new boiler that we need and the new tooth. Our year of saving has been a little dented, but we managed to get flights for only £305, so I’m clinging on to that little bit of luck and hoping it will be a holiday to remember. I’m sure we’ll have a great time!

Some more good news is that one of my good friends in Australia is due to have a baby any week now, and another has just announced the news of her pregnancy. Alex and I spent a few shopping trips looking for gifts to send them and had an amusing few hours looking like total novices in baby stores in Bluewater shopping center. I never thought that shopping for such tiny things could be so time consuming! If you are trying to stop someone feeling broody, then my advice is to just take them shopping for baby goods… How much money do you need to spend on one little person? Cripes! We were particularly flabbergasted at the price of the push chair with gloves built into the handle bar… We all know that’s the one I’ll be needing, if the day ever comes, but for now I’ll settle with my terrible twosome ;)

This Little Piggy

I really don’t mean to keep talking about food, but what the hell can this little piggy do about it when I spend so much of my time eating!? We had pretty quiet weekend so decided to head into to Effra Social in Brixton on Sunday to sample some of their food. As a lover of all things vintage, this pub is right up my street – Formerly the Effra Conservative Club and now owned by Antic the pub, Effra has retained most of its vintage charms and I really hope to head back there soon as their Sunday roast was pretty damned great. It’s a dog friendly pub so head on over and read our full review on our Dog Friendly UK site. It really is worth a visit.

This week is looking pretty busy again. Alex is treating me to lunch at Gordon Ramsey’s Maze tomorrow. I’m not sure why, but I’ll take that treat and scoff it right up! Then on Wednesday, our little Chihuahua turns the grand old age of one and luckily for us Love The Princess have invited us to try out their Pedigree Afternoon Tea. Yes, an afternoon tea for the dog in your life (and plenty of grub for humans to). How I’m going to lose any weight over the next few weeks is beyond me!

Somewhere in between all that I have to fit in mountain loads of work and some bedtime reading… I’ve been dying to get started on a few books that I’ve bought, but just never seem to have the time. I’ve got into the habit of reading everyone’s blog posts before bed, so I’ve neglected the big pile of books building by my bed. Must. Read. More.

Anyway, better scoot as there’s much to be done. Did you have a good weekend? What did you get up to?
