Left In The Cold

Apparently it’s a bit nippy out there today. I personally wouldn’t know as I’m trapped in my bedroom surrounded by practically all of our belongings, while AG Flooring work their noisy magic.

This is the time of the year when I really start to dread working on the till at the warehouse parties I do PR for. An average of two thousand people pass me by and head into the warmth of the tunnels and I’m left shivering it out until 4am with the team. I’m well-known for taking my little heater and thermos of tea along with me to work, but even those don’t really cut it by about 2am. It’s at about that time that I can no longer feel my fingers and toes and I start to become a little less cheerful. Annoyingly, that is also the time that the clubbers become a little more vocal and things get a little more taxing.

When I leave the club I instantly hit defrost in the car, but I don’t actually thaw out until I make it to my bed with yet more tea. It’s true, the older you get the more you feel the cold and this old bird doesn’t like it one bit!

This season a few jumpers have caught my eye in the shops, so I’m adding them to my ever-growing A/W wish list. Below are a few of my favourites. If I layer up enough and invest in a more powerful heater I might, just might, make it through the season.

I love all three of these jumpers by The Rock Boutique and actually just bought the grey one from Asos the other week.
It’s a fab fit and feels really soft. It will no doubt get worn to death…
The trouble now is that I really want them all! £45

If you’re a cat person (like me) then this is the jumper to get.
There are some pretty awful animal prints out there at the moment, but this one isn’t too offensive.
Asos Dolly cat Jumper – £40

Now this jumper doesn’t look too hot on the Topshop website, but in the store I really loved it.
This is NOT the jumper for me though -  It looked great on the hanger but awful on.
Maybe one of you will have more luck with it!
Topshop Spot Jaquard Jumper  – £40

This cute little jumper hasn’t gone too over the top with it’s spots.
I’m not sure the peter pan collar will work for me, but I’ll certainly give it a go.
Pins and Needles Spot Collar Top – Urban Outfitters – £40

Not really a jumper, but this looks pretty warm and cosy to me.
I bet it will come down to my knees though!
Asos Blanket Wrap Cardigan – £45

Have you seen any great jumpers for A/W? If so, do share!

Maxi dress for a mini

My pre holiday diet has been a shambles – A total disaster! I am due to leave for warmer shores in five days and I seem to be dreaming, thinking and eating food non stop.  Last week I decided there was only one thing for it. Not quite so desperate as to go as far as Nigella Lawson and her burqini, I have been on the hunt for a maxi dress for a mini person. Time to cover up some of those lumps and bumps, at least until I get a bit of a tan… No mean feat for someone who is 5 ft 1 let me tell you!

I think I may have found the perfect maxi for a wedding I’m going to in August but I’m still trying to bring the whole outfit together and am not 100% convinced. As with most clothes in my life it does need a tad bit of altering (about a 3 inch snip off the bottom), but I can live with that. It’s finding the maxi dress for my holiday that I’m having the big problem with. I ordered the following dresses from ASOS and nearly drowned trying to put them over my head! So much material for such a small person…

I love this 70′s inspired dress but just got totally lost in it.
Not a good look as the bottom half is a lot fuller than it seems in the picture.

This dress is really pretty but just looked very wrong on me. I looked like I had a tiny top half and a big fat bottom half.
Once again far too much material going on at the bottom for a petite person.

After hours of searching I have decided to make one more last ditched attempt and have ordered three dresses from Miss Selfridge.
Not somewhere I normally shop simply because I haven’t ventured into one of their stores for quite a few years now. The dresses are not something I would usually consider but desperate times calls for desperate measures!

Petites Tribal Animal Maxi Dress – £49.00

Petites Bandeau Maxi Dress – £39.00
I have a feeling this one will make me look a bit like a curtain but I waned to give it a try as the picture often lies… We’ll see.

Petites Moroccan Maxi Dress – £33.00 – The cheapest of the three and I might be popping over to Morocco for the day…

Wish me luck and if any of you short folk have the perfect dress then let me know.

No brimmed hat makes you fat

The holiday season is fast approaching and I’ve recently been scanning the mags for all the latest fashion tips. Today’s top tip is that if we wear a wide-brimmed hat, like this one in Top Shop, we will magically take pounds off our hips and our shoulders will appear less broad. We could go down the more slightly less satisfying route of  eating a healthier diet which would save pounds all round but what fun would that be? Now, all that’s left for me to do is figure out which shop stocks the biggest brim!

I do actually have to start about thinking about some sort of food reduction plan as it’s only about 4 weeks until we head to warmer shores for our break away from technology. Yes, sunshine and good food is about the only combination that will drag me away from my desk. Sad but true. Anyway, the obligatory holiday diet is due simply so I can slip into my beachwear without scaring away the locals.

Last year I bought a fab retro swimsuit from ForLuna – It looks amazing on (well as amazing as I get in a swimsuit) but when I wore this on holiday I discovered one big flaw. It sucks you in like nothing has sucked you in before and after about an hour or so you start to find it slightly difficult to breathe. (After huge consumptions of local drink and food, that is). Definitely one for the lookbook rather than comfort. They have a lovely collection online that is definitely worth a look if you like to stand out.

For Luna Polka Dot Retro Swimsuit

Me in it. Top half. The only view you are getting.

I don’t know what possessed me but this year I’ve gone for something so bright that Alex will most probably need shades for his shades. It seems much more lairy in real life (yes really) but should at least compliment my tan. Alex certainly won’t lose me on the beach!

Tropical Rose Print Tankini from Boux Avenue

I didn’t want to spend mega bucks on something I only really pull out once a year but here is some more beachwear that I really love. I’ll buy it all when I’m rich, famous and über slim… *Sigh*

Two By Two

Noah was onto a good thing there when he lead the animals onto the ark. Everything in two’s… It’s the best way to do it!

I’m a short arse and find it pretty hard to find many clothes that fit me. When it fits, it fits, so now I generally buy things in two’s. For a moment there I went a bit mad and bought three of a few key items. I’m glad I did because I wore them to death… Then I got a little bored.

The other week tragedy almost struck when a MOTEL ROCKS dress that I’d only bought one of started to fade. I went on a slightly manic online search to look for another but alas, it was no longer around for sale. Luckily all was not lost as it turns out Motel make different versions of the same dress. Just for me.  All the same fit but with different top sections allowing me to add a bit of variation to my wardrobe. Sort of.

I’m not as frivolous as I may seem (I promise) and I’ll always wait around for a money off promo code before doubling up. I do realise how mad this may sound to some people. Mainly you model-esque folk with nice long legs and perfectly rounded bums. Everything fits and you look fab darling!

Of course, new dresses mean new shoes. I ordered two different pairs in the hope of choosing the pair that looked the best. (I generally try not to buy two of the same pairs of shoes for fear of bankruptcy and space). One pair were practical and one pair were just plain lovely…. I think you can probably guess what happened next. (How can a girl resist a sale bargain?)

Motel Rocks – Dress number one.

Same dress different angle.
This model definitely doesn’t need to shop in two’s.
