Here are our top 3 alternative music festivals; from the beach to the slopes you can leave the wellies at home this year.

Soundwave Festival

The Croatian festival scene has grown enormously over the few years and in this time Soundwave festival has got better and better. Now Located in a lovely little town called Tisno surrounded by the Adriatic Sea it’s the perfect location for a semi relaxing holiday – locations don’t get much better than this. Spread over 5 days this chilled out festival is in a league of its own hosting artists such as De La Soul, Little Dragon, The Cinematic Orchestra, Roots Manuva and Bonobo to name a few.

Soundwave Croatia is notorious for its boat parties showcasing a high calibre of internationally renowned DJs and Mcs from a range of genres including jazz, dub, electronic and reggae with a bit of hip hop. One thing to remember is that the Soundwave team make sure that all festival goers respect the Croatian rules and repercussions can be severe. Remember that festival wristbands are your ticket – so respect the beautiful people and the land or it will be removed.



Primavera Sound

Described as an ‘essential date in the diary for indie kids’ Primavera Sound doesn’t fail to impress. A far cry from the muddy fields in the UK, Primavera sound can be located in the beautiful city of Barcelona – attracting a huge crowd of music lovers from around the world year after year. There are things to do for 7 days, so you can really make the most of the festival and make it into a holiday, especially with the option to rent an apartment instead of camping.

2013 has an impressive and eclectic line up ranging from Animal collective, Blur, Django Django, Disclosure, and Wu Tang Clan. The crowd is young and trendy so you’ll be able to spot the fashionistas in the crowd competing for street style snaps. Primavera is an amazing festival in an even better city team with sun, tunes and good vibes.



Horizon Festival

Sitting at the top of the slopes in Bulgaria is an interestingly unique festival. A far cry from The Snow bombers, Horizon festival is a dizzy celebration of tech, house and new garage. DJs including Crazy P, Loefah, Eliphino and Dark Sky braved the cold to provide beats and entertainment throughout the day in slopes creating a relaxed yet party vibe.

After a day of snowboarding and skiing, festival goers can head back to the dizzy altitudes to collect their party wristbands for the numerous stages and DJs sets in various venues on the Piste. March 2013 was the first ever Horizon Festival and it has already received rave reviews, proving to be one to watch. Slopes, beer and beats- what more could you want?
